15 Day Disabled

The Texas Rangers yesterday activated outfielder-designated hitter Juan Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list and acquired third baseman Craig Worthington from the Cincinnati Reds.Gonzalez, a two-time AL home run champion, had been on the disabled list since July 27 with a bone spur in the back of his neck.Texas placed third baseman Mike Pagliarulo, like Worthington a former Oriole, on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.Worthington, 30, was hitting .318 with 41 RBIs in 81 games for Triple-A Indianapolis.

The latest examination of Ben McDonald's pitching shoulder confirmed what he already knew -- that he has tendinitis and will be out until at least late August.McDonald, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in California yesterday, after an original consultation with Dr. Thomas Andrews in Washington. McDonald will not pick a ball up for 10 days, although Andrews recommended no throwing for two weeks.Yocum "told me basically what everybody else told me," McDonald said.

It appears Jack Voigt will be the final player trimmed from the Orioles' roster by today's midnight deadline, and the third-year utility man is not happy about it."It's really gotten to the point where I feel it's unfair to classify me as someone who's a borderline-type player," Voigt said. "It seems like every time something comes up everyone looks at me."After yesterday's 3-1 loss to Cleveland, the Orioles placed center fielder Andy Van Slyke on the 15-day disabled list and optioned right fielder Jeffrey Hammonds to Double-A Bowie.
