Severna Park's Olivia Reiter wasn't supposed to receive the insertion on a penalty corner with 10 minutes left in Monday's field hockey game with visiting Arundel, but once she got the ball, she knew what to do with it.
Reiter fired a shot from the edge of the circle for an important insurance goal, and the No. 4 Falcons successfully defended six penalty corners over the game's final nine minutes and defeated the No. 6 Arundel Wildcats, 2-0.
Severna Park (11-2) won its fourth straight against four of the county's top teams by a combined score of 9-1. The Falcons will close the regular season at Annapolis on Wednesday before opening as the top seed in the Class 4A East Region Section I playoffs next week.
No. 13 Marriotts Ridge 5, Howard 2: Caroline Blalock had three goals to lead the host Mustangs (11-2) over the Lions in Howard County league action. Maddie Courtney and Joan Condron each scored for Marriotts Ridge.

No. 12 Dulaney 3, Loch Raven 1: Cameron Carter scored two goals and Brian Kochesfahani added another to lead the Lions (11-1) over the host Raiders in Baltimore County action. Dulaney goalkeeper Dominic Dachille had three saves. The Lions led 2-1 at the half.
Meade 6, St. Mary's 1: Christian Best and, Samuel Dupuy, Tyler Reyda, Jerry Washington, Samuel Solomon and Deion Hunter all scored as the Mustangs beat the host Saints. Josiah Hardwick scored for St. Mary's. Meade led 1-0 at the half.
Aberdeen 3, Havre de Grace 0: Elisa Rivera had eight aces, four kills and two assists as the Eagles shut out the visiting Warriors. Lucy Brooks added four kills, and Samara White had four aces and five kills. Scores were 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18.
Fallston 3, Harford Tech 2: Brittany Callahan had six kills, and Rachel Hart recorded four kills and nine blocks as the Cougars beat the Cobras on in Harford County league play Monday. Scores were 25-10, 24-26, 20-25, 25-16 and 15-7.
