On Oct. 11, the Ottobar will host a benefit event for staff member Tom Malenski, who died last Friday after being stabbed near the Remington music venue following a punk-rock concert.

Details surrounding the benefit event are not currently available, but the Ottobar has set up a page for donations to the Malenski family. To make a donation or for more information, visit this MissionTix page.

There is also a GoFundMe page accepting donations to help with funeral costs. It is closing in on 500 donations since Saturday.

For years, Malenski often worked the entrance of the Ottobar, and last Friday, he was there — off the clock — to see GBH and other punk acts. After the show an altercation broke out, co-owner Mike Bowen said, and Malenski helped remove a patron.

Once outside, Malenski and another man were attacked, Bowen said, and Baltimore police found Malenski at around 2 a.m. with wounds in his neck. He later died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Nicholas Heath, 32, was charged on Saturday with the murder, and on Monday, a judge denied him bail.
