Witnesses said a man fired gunshots at three men after they assaulted and chased him near Catonsville High School on Wednesday night, Baltimore County police said.

Police dispatched at about 6:30 p.m. found the man in his early 20s bleeding from his injuries, although not shot or stabbed, in the 200 block of Bloomsbury Ave. between the high school and the Bloomsbury Community Center, department spokesman Sean Vinson said. A gun was found nearby, Vinson said.

The man had been running from three men, who ran in turn after he shot at them, witnesses told police. They were not found, and it was unclear whether any of them were injured. Police said they could not confirm the weapon had been fired, but several people reported hearing shots.

The man was hospitalized for his injuries, police said. He was not identified and his condition was not released.
