Terps cornerback Will Likely named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

Maryland cornerback Will Likely intercepted a pass against Syracuse on Saturday and returned it 88 yards for a touchdown to help the Terps come away with an important road win heading into the Big Ten portion of their schedule.

On Monday, Likely became the first Maryland player to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

In addition to the interception, Likely led the Terps with nine tackles, and he had a tackle for a loss.

For the year, Likely is third on the team with 27 tackles. He also has three tackles for a loss, a sack, five pass deflections, a forced fumble and two interceptions.

Maryland plays its first conference game as a member of the Big Ten on Saturday at Indiana.
