Injuries force Terps football team to make changes to depth chart

Maryland released an updated depth chart Monday in advance of Saturday’s game at Indiana.

Here are the changes:

* Sophomore P.J. Gallo and redshirt freshman Derrick Hayward are listed as co-starters at tight end after starter Andrew Isaacs suffered a season-ending knee injury against Syracuse on Saturday. Gallo was the first to enter after Isaacs got hurt and had one catch for 11 yards.

* Sophomore running back Wes Brown is listed on Maryland’s two-deep for the first time this season. Edsall said Sunday that Brown and starting running back Brandon Ross were on the field for around the same amount of plays against Syracuse, and Brown is now listed as a co-backup to Ross along with junior Albert Reid. Reid had previously been listed as the sole backup behind Ross.

* Senior Keith Bowers is listed as a starter at defensive end. Bowers replaces Quinton Jefferson, who coach Randy Edsall said Sunday will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he suffered against West Virginia on Sept. 13. Bowers had been sharing time at nose tackle with Darius Kilgo. But freshman David Shaw saw time behind Kilgo against Syracuse and is listed as Kilgo’s backup.

* Redshirt freshman Jalen Brooks and junior Avery Thompson are listed as co-backups behind Matt Robinson at outside linebacker with sophomore Cavon Walker out for the rest of the year because of a foot injury. Brooks started in place of Robinson against Syracuse with Robinson sidelined because of a shoulder injury.
