We should respect our National Anthem at Orioles games [Letter]

September 20, 2014

Congratulations to letter writer Roy Valiant for saying what a lot of us think. Our National Anthem should be treated with respect, not just to honor a song, a flag and our country but also to honor all those who have given their lives protecting this country ("Now that Baltimore has celebrated the National Anthem, perhaps we can stop desecrating it at Orioles games," Sept. 18).

It is unbelievable that people can be so callous and show so much disrespect by yelling out "O!" during the playing of the anthem.

I had the opportunity to hear the woman on the radio who claims to have started the yelling, and she should be ashamed of herself, not proud.

Worse yet, the Orioles organization has done nothing to try and control or stop this. Has this country lost so much respect in favor of cheering for a sports team?
