Kate Robinson, the granddaughter of legendary Mount St. Mary's men's basketball coach Jim Phelan and the daughter of current Mount athletic director Lynne Robinson, will coach Whitman College women's lacrosse during its first season in Division III next spring. The school is in Walla Walla, Wash.

"The growth of lacrosse throughout the country is tremendous," Kate Robinson said. "It's especially evident in the high school programs throughout the West Coast, so the fact that Whitman is the most recent college to add it is very exciting."

Robinson spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. An Emmitsburg native, she was an All-American at Catholic, where she stands as the career leader in goals (268) and points (383).

Following in the footsteps of her father, she also captained the women's basketball team her final two seasons; Jim Phelan won 830 games over 49 seasons at the Mount, the longest tenure at one school in Division I history.
