Ravens fans, players need to stick up for Rice [Letter]

September 12, 2014

First, let me say that I do not in any way condone what happened between Ray Rice and his then fiancée in that elevator. Regardless of what led to the altercation between them his reaction was to the extreme. In the public aftermath that followed he was vilified in the media, censured and punished by the NFL and in my humble opinion, thrown under the bus by Coach John Harbaugh and Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. The man made a mistake, as have countless other pro athletes before him. I believe he deserves a break. I believe his amended punishment is way to severe. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should resign. Why haven't the Ravens family (players as well as fans) been more vocal in Ray's defense? Shame on us.
