NFL, Ravens had to be shamed into firing Ray Rice [Letter]

September 11, 2014

That the NFL and the Ravens waited for an elevator video to shame them into action regarding Ray Rice's conduct speaks volumes about greed in name of pro football ("Ravens release Ray Rice after new video surfaces," Sept. 8).

The only aspect missing in this ludicrous drama is the voice Art Modell sanctimoniously extolling Mr. Rice's character.

However, this is a nation of second-chances, and one fully expects that another NFL team, desperate for a running back, will pick-up Mr. Rice — but only after he's done community service, attended mandatory domestic violence counseling and appeared on Dr. Phil, Oprah and Ellen's shows. Can a book and movie deal be far behind?
