A 13-year-old girl was accidentally shot at a Bel Air home on Friday afternoon, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.

The girl was shot in the leg, Cristie Kahler, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said. She was taken to the Johns Hopkins Childrens Center in Baltimore with a non-life threatening injury, Kahler said. She was later released, according to Kahler.

Kahler said the incident occurred on Colonial Court where the homeowner had recently died and family members were cleaning the house.

The girl and a 14-year-old boy came across a handgun and the boy accidentally discharged the weapon, hitting the girl in the leg.

Kahler said the call for the shooting was received at 4:11 p.m. and deputies were still at the scene after 6 p.m.

The girl and boy are cousins, Kahler said.

No charges will be filed, she added.
