Pa. man wins grand prize at 2014 Maryland Fishing Challenge Finale

Rick Snider of Biglerville, Pa., caught a 40.5-inch striped bass off Breezy Point in Calvert County to win the grand prize of a boat, motor and trailer from Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Boats at Sunday's 2014 Maryland Fishing Challenge Finale. Forty anglers caught specially tagged rockfish this summer in the Diamond Jim component of the 2014 Fishing Challenge, splitting the contest's cash prize of $25,000. Nearly 2,000 people attended the event, held in conjunction with the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis.

College football: Senior quarterback Ken Emmons threw for 143 yards and ran for 86, leading host Frostburg State (1-0) to a 24-19 win over Geneva (0-1) on Saturday night in a game delayed by an hour because of lightning. The Bobcats entered the fourth quarter with a 24-6 lead before 13 unanswered points brought the Tornadoes within five.

Major League Soccer: D.C. United continued host Vancouver Whitecaps FC's goal drought in a 0-0 draw Saturday. Scoring chances were at a premium for both sides as United stifled Vancouver (7-6-13), which extended its goalless streak to 411 minutes. D.C. (14-8-5) stays atop the Eastern Conference by improving to 47 points.
