College football: Maryland will hold its Fan Appreciation Day at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Byrd Stadium. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. Athletic department officials will be on hand for select-a-seat and mezzanine-ticket upgrade opportunities for this season. After the team's scrimmage at 3:30p.m., coach Randy Edsall and Terps players will participate in an autograph session on the field. Spectators are welcome to come on the field after the scrimmage. Maryland posters and schedule cards for this season will be available at the marketing tables. Those attending are advised to park in Lot 1. Byrd Stadium can be accessed through Gate I. … Navy junior quarterback Keenan Reynolds Jr.was named to the Manning Award preseason watch list. The list includes 32 of the nation's top quarterbacks entering this season. … Former Morgan State coach and athletic director Earl Banks will be inducted into the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame on Nov. 14 in Baltimore.

Redskins: Rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland faced the media for the first time since receiving a citation for marijuana possessionMonday evening. "I talked to coach [Jay] Gruden and I talked to [general manager] Mr. Bruce [Allen]," the fourth-round draft pick said. "The conversation that we had, we would like to keep it private. I'll just take and deal with the consequences like everyone else who's ever dealt with a citation."

Men's college basketball: Maryland freshman guard Dion Wiley is participating in the Global Sports Academy's Goodwill Tour. The trip, which started Wednesday, includes stops in Belgium, Germany and England, and runs until Thursday. The team will play five games over nine days.

Major League Lacrosse: Ohio Machine coach Bear Davis, who also coaches boys' lacrosse at Archbishop Spalding and is the Cavaliers' associate athletic director, placed second in Coach of the Year voting.

College baseball: Right-hander Desean Rabb (CCBC-Catonsville, Western) signed to play at Coppin State next season.

Golf: Denny McCarthy of Rockville came back from a three-stroke deficit with five holes remaining to beat Eli Cole in the third round of the U.S. Amateur Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club. McCarthy, a senior at Virginia, beat Jonathan Woo earlier Thursday, 5 and 3.

American Professional Basketball League: The Bay Area Shuckers announced the signing of forward Danny Thompson (Mount St. Mary's), a two-time All-League selection with the Shuckers.
