Young advances to first semifinal since 2011
Former world junior No. 1 Donald Young came back in the second set to defeat seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals at the Citi Open in Washington. This will be Young's first appearance in an ATP World Tour semifinal since September 2011. He will face Milos Raonic in the semifinals today. Also on Friday, Vania King, the final U.S. woman in the tournament, withdrew from competition because of a right hip injury, the same injury that forced her to pull out of her doubles match with partner Taylor Townsend on Thursday. There were nine Americans in the 32-player women's field, but favorites such as Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys suffered upsets and youngsters such as Lauren Davis and Townsend were beaten by more experienced players.

Terps wide receiver Nigel King transferring
Maryland junior wide receiver Nigel King has been granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer to another school, an athletic department source confirmed Friday. King had 33 catches for 450 yards and four touchdowns last season, but he was set to enter preseason practice as a backup among a deep and talented group of wide receivers.
