Police find missing rower dead in Talbot County

A 76-year-old St. Michael's man was found dead Sunday after he went missing while rowing in Broad Creek in Talbot County, Maryland Natural Resources police said.

Allen Myers and his wife had set out in the water separately in rowing shells Saturday morning, but each had gone in a different direction, police spokeswoman Candus Thomson said. When he didn't return, his wife reported him missing.

DNR staff found Myers's empty shell on the river's shore about 2 p.m. Saturday. They then searched and used specially trained K-9 dogs, divers and sonar equipment to find Meyers.

The search operation was suspended at nightfall Saturday and resumed Sunday morning. Myers's body was found floating in three feet of water. Thomson said he was not wearing a life jacket.
