Her story: Lisa Ponzoli, 35, grew up in Lutherville. Before becoming center manager at Nava Health & Vitality Center in Columbia last year, she owned Babe, a boutique in Fells Point, for six years. Her parents, Penni and Jack Hopkins, live in Bel Air.
His story: Matt Schaefer, 36, grew up in Westminster. He is an information technology department director at Laureate Education Inc. in Baltimore. His parents, Millie and Richard Schaefer, live in New Freedom, Pa.
Their story: Lisa and Matt met in 2011 through Match.com. After talking on the website, they met in person for the first time at Red Star Bar & Grill in Fells Point. They went on several dates after that, but Lisa says neither of them saw things working out in the end.
A few months later in February 2012, Lisa and Matt ran into each other one day and reconnected, deciding to give their relationship another chance.
"We just went to Johnny Rad's [Pizzeria Tavern in Fells Point] to have some pizza and beer, and ended up liking each other this time around," Lisa says.
The couple live in Federal Hill.
The proposal: Matt proposed on the beach during a trip to Puerto Rico in April 2013.
"I was not expecting that because we had our house on the market, so financially I would never have thought that was the time that we would have gotten engaged," Lisa says. "It was extremely unexpected and very, very sweet and it made our vacation amazing."
Venue: The ceremony and reception held at Milton Ridge Historic Chapel in Clarksburg were attended by 99 guests.
Flowers and decor: Lisa envisioned a "polished DIY" theme for the wedding, which included collecting glass bottles in different shapes and sizes for nearly six months before the event. In the reception hall, three bottles were grouped on each table as centerpieces and filled with an assortment of flowers from Event Plus Design in Washington.
Event Plus Design also made Lisa's bouquet, using lilac tulips, white hydrangeas, baby's breath and greenery. The bridesmaids carried baby's breath bouquets.
A focal piece of the wedding was a set of large, light-up marquee letters that spelled "love," which were lent by Lisa's friend Katie DeStefano, owner of Curiosity in Harbor East.
Her dress: The bride wore a strapless, A-line, tiered gown with a beaded belt from Stella's Gifts and Bridals in Canton.
As her "something old," Lisa wore a pair of vintage rhinestone earrings from Vanessa Vintage Treasures in Federal Hill. As her "something borrowed," she wore a double pearl ring that her mother received on her 16th birthday.
Lisa made a three-strand necklace using pearls she bought at The Zone in Mount Vernon, and accented it with an applique she removed from her dress and attached to the pearls.
Bridesmaids' dresses: The women wore floor-length, chiffon gowns in a smoky lilac color by Alfred Angelo from Alfred Angelo Bridal in Glen Burnie.
They each wore a pair of vintage earrings, all from Vanessa Vintage Treasures, and bracelets that Lisa made using crystals and extra strands from her pearl necklace.
Men's attire: Matt and the groomsmen wore their own black, slim-cut suits along with lilac and white houndstooth ties from Jos. A. Bank.
Music: DJ Dean Cantemiry from Event Solutions in White Marsh entertained. Lisa and Matt's first dance was to "I Love How You Love Me" by Neutral Milk Hotel.
Food and dessert: Milton Ridge catering made a barbecue-style menu, including pulled pork, barbecue chicken, and a sausage and peppers dish.
Midnite Confections Cupcakery in Federal Hill made a two-tier vanilla cake and four types of cupcakes, with flavors such as salted caramel, black velvet and vanilla.
Favors: Guests received miniature picture frames, which also served as escort cards during the reception.
Special touches: Marisa Ringold of Timonium provided makeup services for the bridal party.
