Coffee Companion (7/2): Homer-happy Orioles stay hot

July 02, 2014|By Jon Meoli | The Baltimore Sun

The only thing harder than the U.S. being out of the World Cup is that there's no soccer for two days. When it rains, it pours. If it's any consolation, I am back with the Coffee Companion, which recaps the previous day's local sports headlines.

- The Orioles haven’t stopped hitting home runs recently, with three more in a 7-3 win over the Rangers.

- Nelson Cruz is practically a lock for the All-Star game this month, but are any other Orioles?

- The destruction of Kevin Gausman’s psyche continues with an outing tonight in Aberdeen, while Nolan Reimold was designated for assignment Tuesday.

- Orioles radio broadcaster Fred Manfra was back at Camden Yards Tuesday after hip surgery that kept him out most of the year.

- The Ravens traded the rights to retired/maybe not retired anymore/probably soon to be retired linebacker Rolando McClain to the Cowboys for a sixth-round pick, which is kind of crazy. McClain has a rocky past with the game of football, in that he doesn’t seem like he likes it very much.
