James T. Reynolds Sr., a retired Western Maryland tire company owner, died June 23 of congestive heart failure at Stella Maris Hospice. He was 90.

James Thomas Reynolds Sr. was born and raised in East Baltimore. He attended Loyola High School.

He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and, after being injured during training, was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1944.

In the 1940s, Mr. Reynolds went to work as a salesman for O'Toole General Tire in Baltimore, a retail franchise of General Tire and Rubber Co. — now GenCorp. He eventually rose to become sales manager.

Several years later, he became general sales manager for all of General Tire's Baltimore franchises. In 1967, he left the company and moved to Frederick, where he owned and operated Western Maryland General Tire until closing the business in the late 1990s.

Before moving to Frederick, he was a longtime resident of Glenwood Avenue in Govans.

He was a former longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Govans, where he had been an instructor for the St. Mary's Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Reynolds, who had lived at St. Elizabeth Hall at Stella Maris since 2005, enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and was an inveterate fan of the Orioles and the Baltimore Colts.

His wife of 53 years, the former Lucille Lewis, died in 1995.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Stella Maris Hospice, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by two sons, James T. Reynolds Jr. of Owings Mills and Michael Reynolds of Jessup; a daughter, Mary Ellen Jaeger of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
