Ryleigh's Oyster headed for restaurant space near Meyerhoff

Coming this fall, Meyerhoff patrons will be able to slurp some oysters before their Offenbach and Orff.

A third location for Ryleigh's Oyster is coming to the multi-level restaurant space on Cathedral Street that most recently housed Mari Luna Bistro, which closed in January.

"We want to get it open by the beginning of show season," said Ryleigh's owner Brian McComas, who owns and operates the original Ryleigh's in Federal Hill and a second, Ryleigh's Hunt Valley, on Padonia Road.  

The Meyerhoff's main attraction, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, begins its fall season on Sept. 18.

McComas said he wasn't concerned about the property's reputation for being jinxed.

Before Mari Luna's untimely closing, tenants like Robert Oliver Seafood and 23rd Degree Restaurant and Wine Bar had notably short runs, although the property was once home to successful operations like Spike & Charlie's and Ethel's Place.

McComas said he will be making improvements to the main floor, adjacent bar and especially to the patio, which he said some previous tenants didn't use to its full potential. He also said that some previous tenants may have overly relied on the symphony crowd.

"We're a pretty good 'tweener' -- we're not a bar and not a restaurant. We address a lot of different demographics," McComas said. "We think we appeal to both Mount Vernon locals and show-goers."
