Nelson Cruz, Matt Wieters still lead in American League All-Star voting

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Designated hitter Nelson Cruz and catcher Matt Wieters remain the leading American League vote-getters at their respective positions in All-Star Game fan balloting released Monday night.

Cruz (1,792,432) continued to lead the Boston Red Sox's David Ortiz (1,316,921), while Wieters, who will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery Tuesday, leads New York Yankees catcher Brian McCann, 1,488,884 votes to 1,075,210.

Adam Jones dropped a spot to fifth among AL outfielders as he was passed by the Oakland Athletics' Yoenis Cespedes. The top three outfielders start in the game. J.J. Hardy remained third among AL shortstops, trailing New York's Derek Jeter and the Chicago White Sox's Alexei Ramirez.

Third baseman Manny Machado and first baseman Chris Davis remained fourth at their respective position, while Nick Markakis is 10th among outfielders.

In-stadium balloting ends June 26, but fans can continue to vote on until July 3 at 11:59 p.m.
