Pippa Middleton — sister of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge — is expected to arrive in Annapolis late this week or early next week on the final leg of a 3,000-mile bike race across the United States.

The Race Across America, as the trek is known, crosses 12 states and the Arizona desert, departing from Oceanside Calif. According to her donation website, Middleton is using the opportunity to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and the Michael Matthews Foundation, a childhood education nonprofit.

Middleton is biking on a team that includes her brother and six others. The website notes that they expect to complete the challenge in eight days, riding between 350 and 500 miles a day.

They could arrive in Annapolis any time from this Friday to the following Tuesday, according to race estimates.

A group of eight Annapolis cyclists, Team Friends Foundation, is also taking part in the race, and is fundraising for local organizations including the Annapolis Boys and Girls Club.

City officials are "thrilled" that Middleton is racing, said Rhonda Wardlaw, communications officer for the City of Annapolis. "We are excited to see who comes across the finish line first—Team Friends Foundation, or Ms. Middleton's team," she added. The cyclists will finish in Susan Campbell Park, Wardlaw said.
