Coffee Companion (6/10): Manny Machado's tough stretch continues

June 10, 2014|By Jon Meoli | The Baltimore Sun

I got in late from Charlottesville and need some coffee badly, but haven't had it yet. So this will be a short Coffee Companion, and it helps that there was really only one local sports headline yesterday.

- Bud Norris’ best start as an Oriole led the team to a 4-0 win to open a three-game set with Boston. But most of the focus was on Manny Machado, who was torched all day before he apologized in a MASN exclusive interview, which caused he and the team to be further skewered. Machado spoke to the full media after the game. Got all that?

- In less exciting but no less important news, Matt Wieters is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews again after still experiencing issues with his elbow.

- Maryland baseball’s magical run finally ended when Virginia drubbed the Terps, 11-2, to advance to the College World Series. It was still the Terps’ best season ever.

One step closer to the crown

- The Los Angeles Kings opened the scoring right before the end of the first period to lead for the first time this series, and cruised to a 3-0 win over New York. Los Angeles is one win away from the Stanley Cup.
