Part of Main Street in downtown Annapolis will be closed Monday night for temporary repairs to a crosswalk.

Annapolis public works crews will repair the crosswalk at Chancery Lane, near the Wheat clothing store and Ron George Jewelers, beginning at 7 p.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Workers will remove the bricks in the crosswalk and replace them with asphalt. Deep ruts have developed in the crosswalk and some bricks are loose. “Caution when crossing” signs have been posted, warning pedestrians of the uneven crosswalk surface.

All of Main Street will be reconstructed during a $2 million project in 2015, according to city officials.

In the event of rain Monday, the work will be done Tuesday into Wednesday.
