Gavin Sheets, the son of former Orioles outfielder and Gilman coach Larry Sheets, was drafted in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. He was the No. 1,123 pick overall.

Sheets just finished his senior season at Gilman, batting .400 with five home runs and 36 RBIs for the Greyhounds. A first baseman and pitcher, he is set to attend Wake Forest.

Sheets, 6 feet 4 and 215 pounds, bats and throws left-handed.

He is at least the third son of a former Oriole to be drafted Saturday. First baseman Ryan Ripken, Cal Ripken Jr.’s son, went to the Washington Nationals in the 15th round, and pitcher Brandon Bonilla, son of Bobby, was selected in the 25th round by the Orioles.
