Akosa developed into a dynamic performer who ended his high school career with a bang, winning Class 2A state titles in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and running on the third-place 800-meter relay.

That's an unusual combination to win, but Akosa has been strong in all three events this spring. He won all three at the state meet after doing the same thing the week before at the region meet.

The senior is headed to Princeton in the fall, and Western Tech coach Shedrick Elliott was delighted by Akosa's development.

"He came in as a freshman with big goals — making the Nigerian Olympic team by his adult years — and over the course of his high school career, he has made a believer out of me," Elliott said. "He's been the most coachable athlete I've had in my eight years here, and from where I'm standing, I've been privileged to work with him both on and off the track."
