Box of Rain

Volunteers are needed to act as mentors for the Box of Rain organization's Big Sailor/Little Sailor Program and to serve as sailing instructors. Donations of funds and safety boats for sailing classes, boats, boating equipment — especially life preservers and gear — are also needed. Information: 443-254-0024.

Commission for Women

The Anne Arundel County Commission for Women seeks volunteers to help address issues important to women and families in the county. The commission consists of 16 members representing a cross-section of the community. Members, appointed for two-year terms, are expected to attend monthly meetings, ad hoc committees and working group sessions, a one-day annual planning retreat and commission-sponsored events. First Sunday Arts Festival

Opportunity Builders Inc.

Nonprofit that provides vocational training and employment services to adults with developmental disabilities needs volunteer instructor aides to assist clients with staying on-task to meet production quotas and help them to learn appropriate work skills and techniques. Volunteers 18 and older who can commit to coming to the Millersville facility, once a week for at least three months are preferred. Volunteers, individuals and groups, also conduct job interviews, teach computer classes, assist with special events, painting and maintenance projects. Aid for immigrants

Volunteers are needed to serve as outreach coordinators for the Organization of Hispanics/Latin Americans to help bridge existing gaps in areas such as health, jobs and other services needed by the community. Bilingual volunteers are also needed to staff the Annapolis office in the Community Resource Center at 80 West St. and assist the Hispanic community with issues ranging from immigration to interpreter services. Training is provided. Volunteers must be age 18 and older; some computer skills are preferred but not necessary. Environmental center

Volunteers are needed to assist in the education department of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and with activities such as leading field trips and canoe excursions, helping in classrooms, and maintaining aquariums and gardens. No specific experience is required and all appropriate training will be provided.
