The Orioles optioned right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet to Triple-A Norfolk after Tuesday’s game to clear a 25-man roster spot for right-hander Kevin Gausman, who will start Wednesday.

Guilmet, who was called up before Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, pitched in both games after his promotion. He did not allow a hit or run in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Guilmet struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings Monday, and he fanned J.D. Martinez with two outs in the ninth Tuesday to close the frame. He will return to Norfolk, where he compiled a 2-1 record with a 5.65 ERA and four saves in 12 appearances.
