Former Maryland starting guard Seth Allen has committed to transfer to Virginia Tech, according to media reports.

Allen announced his surprising decision to transfer last Friday, becoming the fourth scholarship player to leave the program this offseason.

The rising junior guard likely will have to sit out the 2014-15 season before he is eligible to play at Virginia Tech, which hired former Marquette coach Buzz Williams in March.

Allen, who averaged 13.4 points per game, three assists and 1.7 turnovers per game last season, was expected to move off the ball this season with the arrival of McDonald's All-American guard Melo Trimble.
