Bowie State athletic director Anton Goff is leaving to accept the same position at the University of Hartford and was introduced in his new role at a news conference Friday. Goff will begin his new job in July after spending four years at Bowie State.

“I thank the entire Bowie State University community for the support that not only I received, but the athletic department received from day one,” Goff said in a news release. “The experience I had at Bowie State was incredible and I truly believe the program is heading in the right direction.”

Goff joined Bowie State after serving as an associate athletic director at the University of Maryland. He oversaw the first men’s basketball Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship since 2003, dramatic increases in student-athlete graduation rates and significant renovations to the Bulldogs’ football stadium.

“Anton Goff has done a tremendous job as our university’s athletic director and his departure will be a great loss,” Bowie State President Mickey L. Bumim said in the news release. ““We share in his excitement about the new opportunity and wish him well.”

Hartford president Walt Harrison introduced Goff by saying he “has a youthful demeanor that belies his vast experience at a variety of institutions and a proven track record.”

Goff is replacing longtime Hartford athletic director Pat Meiser, who announced her retirement in February after 21 years at the school.
