Loyola Maryland senior defenseman Joe Fletcher was named Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.

He was also named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team along with Greyhounds seniors Kyle Duffy and Justin Ward (Old Mill).

Fletcher had a 3.812 GPA entering his senior season, and his on-field performance has been just as strong. He leads all close defensemen nationally in ground balls (61) and ground balls per game (4.69), and his matchups have combined to score just 11 goals in 13 games this year.

He will graduate next month with a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting before moving on to a full-time job with PricewaterhouseCoopers this summer.

On the field, Fletcher has helped the Greyhounds' defense rank third in the nation in goals allowed per game (7.0). He has 19 caused turnovers, and his 64 during his career rank fourth in school history.

Women: Loyola's senior midfielder Marlee Paton and senior defender Katherine Reinhard and Navy's senior midfielder Jill Coughlin (St. Mary's) and sophomore attacker Katie Gallagher (C. Milton Wright) were named to the Patriot League All-Academic team.
