No. 5 Florida women's lacrosse beats No. 12 Penn State, 13-9

Host No. 5 Florida used a six- and a four-goal run in the first half to defeat No. 12 Penn State, 13-9, on Sunday.

Junior midfielder Shannon Gilroy and freshman midfielder Mollie Stevens combined for eight of the Gators' 13 goals. The Nittany Lions (7-4, 2-1 American Lacrosse Conference) scored the first goal of the game, but Florida (12-2, 3-0) responded with a 6-0 run for an early lead.

After Penn State scored two goals, the Gators went on a 4-0 spurt to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. The Nittany Lions scored the first three goals and outscored Florida 6-3 in the second half, but their comeback fell short.


Columbia 11, Mount St. Mary's 0: Jessie Ambrose led the visiting Lions (3-5) with three goals in a shutout over the Mount (1-8).

Towson 12, Delaware 10, OT: Trailing 9-7 with 1:51 remaining in the game, the Tigers (6-5, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) rallied to force overtime and defeat the visiting Blue Hens (7-4, 0-1).

Towson's Kelly McQuilkin (Atholton) scored a goal with 5.9 seconds remaining to send the game into extra minutes.
