Annapolis Book Festival

Volunteers are needed for the Annapolis Book Festival, being held 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 5 at the Key School, 534 Hillsmere Drive. The event brings nationally renowned authors to discuss their books and the craft of writing. The festival also features children's activities, live music, refreshments, and new and used book sales. Film festival

A large number of volunteers are needed to help with the Annapolis Film Festival being held March 27-30. Films will be shown at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, St. John's College, St. Anne's Parish Hall and Compass Rose Theater. Volunteers are required to complete two six-hour shifts over the four-day festival, with one six-hour shift to be completed on a Saturday or Sunday. Boy Scouts

Troop 323 of Annapolis, chartered in November, needs adult volunteers to help nurture it. Volunteers must be older than 18, may be male or female, and must pass a background check. All registered adults must also complete required training to include youth protection training. Meetings are held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the First Baptist Church of Annapolis. Footworks ensemble

Volunteer opportunities are available in photography, tech support, filing/office Work, fundraising, archiving, and arts administration for the Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. Information: Marsha Searle at 410-897-9299 or office@footworks.org.

Literacy council

Tutors are needed to help combat adult illiteracy. After completing training, volunteers make their own schedule with an assigned student at a place of their choosing, or can tutor at local detention centers. Hours are flexible and most work can be done at home. Information: 410-269-4419.

Maritime Museum

The Annapolis Maritime Museum needs volunteers on a continuing basis to maintain and expand its environmental education program, conduct tours of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, restore wooden boats, interpret the museum's exhibits to the public and help with the winter seminar series, the summer concert series and events such as the Annapolis Oyster Roast and Sock Burning in March and the Boatyard Beach Bash in September. Special Olympics

SPCA

Volunteers, 18 and older, are needed to walk dogs, socialize cats, provide foster care, help with adoption shows, bath and brush dogs and other duties. Training sessions are held once a month. Information: 410-268-4388 or email volunteer@aacspca.org.
