Hofstra pulls away from UNCW, 78-70, late in CAA first-round game

Pride will face Delaware today in quarterfinal at Baltimore Arena

Eighth-seeded Hofstra finished with a 9-0 run and won, 78-70, against ninth-seeded UNC Wilmington in the first game of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament Friday night at Baltimore Arena.

Zeke Upshaw led the Pride (10-22) with 23 points. Four more Hofstra players — Dion Nesmith, Moussa Kone, Stephen Nwaukoni and Jamall Robinson — also scored in double figures.

The Pride shot 27-for-53 (50.9 percent) in the game compared with the Seahawks' 25-for-66 (37.9 percent).

Hofstra will face first-seeded Delaware at noon today.

Craig Ponder paced UNCW (9-23) with 24 points, and Freddie Jackson added 16 points and four rebounds.
