Career information

Howard Community College will host a series of career information sessions to give students and community members the opportunity to learn about different career options. Each session will feature a panel of working professionals from various fields, allowing participants to connect with employers and explore internship opportunities. All sessions will be held in Room 100 of Duncan Hall, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia

•Session on education and the social sciences will be held March 19 with a career panel from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and an internship fair from noon to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

•Session on information technology session will be held March 25 with a career panel from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and an internship fair from 1:30 p..m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Call to artists

The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications for the juried portion of "Paint It! Ellicott City 2014," a plein air paint-out and exhibit in Ellicott City. A minimum of $5,000 in awards will be presented to participating artists. Event will be held July 11-14. For a prospectus and entry form, go to Application deadline is April 30.

WomenFest vendors

Vendors promoting health, wellness, fashion and beauty can apply for a spot at the sixth annual Department of Citizen Services' WomenFest, being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center, 2400 Route 97 in Cooksville. Event will feature an interactive day with free health screenings, engaging seminars and a wide array of vendors and exhibitors of products and services geared toward women.

Football coaches

Howard County Terps Football is accepting applications for head and assistant volunteer coaches for the spring indoor and fall outdoor seasons. Interviews will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 9 and 12. Candidates should apply at 


The Association of Retired Howard County Public School Personnel will award at least three $1,000 scholarships to qualified applicants. To be eligible, the applicant must be a county public high school senior scheduled to graduate at the end of this current school year or a graduate of a county public high school currently enrolled in college and pursuing a career in education. This award is specific to those students who are pursuing a career in education and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. A scholarship application form is available in the Student Services Office of any public high school. GreenFest vendors

Vendor applications are being accepted for the county's seventh annual GreenFest, being held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 at Howard Community College's Burrill Galleria, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. Vendors and exhibitors with information on green products, options for resident involvement in greening the community, ecological home cleaning, environmentally friendly lawn care, alternative energy, water conservation and reuse, and tips for greening your everyday activities are encouraged to apply. Other topics of interest include energy efficiency, green buildings, green consumer products, green landscaping, wildlife exploration, children's activities and information on local green organizations.

Each exhibit space includes a 5-foot table and two chairs. Cost is $45 per space, $35 for nonprofits. Preference will be given to local businesses and organizations that promote environmentally friendly goods and services. For more information, call Alan Wilcom at 410-313-6433 or email him at

Sports Hall of Fame

Nomination forms are available for the Department of Recreation and Parks' 2014 Community Sports Hall of Fame, which recognizes individuals who have gained prominence in or made substantial contributions to community recreational sports in the county. Coaches, managers, league officials, commissioners or behind-the-scenes contributors can be nominated. Nominees must be either county residents or have made their sports contributions primarily in Howard County. Nomination deadline is April 15.
