The following letter wes sent to Barbara P. Canavan, interim superintendentof Harford County Public Schools, and Nancy Reynolds, president of the county Board of Education. A copy was provided for publication.
As a follow-up to our letter to you of February 6, the Harford County Delegation requests your presence at our next delegation meeting on Friday, February 21, 2014. The precise time is to be determined, but will be between 9 and 10:30 am.
Our purpose is to have a better dialogue and to come to a better understanding of the circumstances which occurred in relation to the Board of Public Works appeal hearing on Feb. 5. We would also like to discuss issues concerning vocational training in the Harford County Public School system. Specifically, we have been informed that the Plumbing program has been removed from the curriculum at Harford Technical Institute. If true, we want to know the rationale behind this decision, especially in view of the fact that we have a task force forming to study vocational programs in HCPS. It would be very helpful to have you report on the history of vo-tech programs over the past fifteen years, citing the number and type of programs which have been dropped, the number of teachers let go, and the number of students affected.
