As many as three inmates were stabbed in a general population housing unit at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup Thursday night, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Two inmates were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening stabbing injuries, and a third, found with a puncture wound, may also be taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to Mark Vernarelli, spokesman for the department.

Medics were called to the medium-security male prison in the 7800 block of House of Correction Rd. around 7:30 p.m., and the victim was taken to an area hospital with minor stabbing wounds, said Anne Arundel Fire Department spokesman Lt. Russ Davies.

No other details were released late Thursday, and the Department of Corrections Internal Investigative Unit is investigating the stabbings.
