Genealogical help

The Howard County Genealogical Society offers a free help desk at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Howard County Library's Miller branch, 9421 Frederick Road. Help is available for researching the U.S., Europe and other countries. Information: 410-480-3250.

Soccer registration

The coed Elkridge Youth Organization spring soccer program is accepting registrations for ages 4-18. No tryouts are required, and all players receive playing time. Games are played at Rockburn Park. English conversation

The Miller branch of the Howard County Public Library, 9421 Frederick Road, offers "Let's Get Together: English Conversation Club," a chance for those for whom English is a second language to practice speaking and understanding English in a group setting. Senior safety tips Pfc. Andre Lingham, liaison of the Howard County Police Department, will talk about current scams as well as safety concerns in and around the community at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Black History Month Film Series at 1 p.m. Wednesdays: "Voices of Civil Rights" on Wednesday, Feb. 12, "A Fragile Freedom: African-American Historic Sites" Feb. 19 and "Up From Slavery" Feb. 26.

Brain Fitness Robin Zahor leads a class on how to keep the mind sharp and improve cognitive performance at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13.

Can You Hear Me Now? Need help with your cellphone? Sign up for basic instruction on retrieving messages, how to access contact numbers and listen to or delete voice messages from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday, Feb. 13-14.

Valentine's Day brunch A personal chef from Overlea Catering will make custom omelets beginning at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14. The menu includes hash brown potatoes, sausage, fruit, pastries and coffee. Reservations are required. Cost is $5.27.

Ask the Pharmacist Don Hamilton will provide the latest updates and information concerning medications at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24. Bring your questions, drug lists or prescription containers for discussion.

Bingo Enjoy an afternoon of bingo beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. Cost is $4.

Beyond Beginners Line Dancing Mary McCormick leads a line dancing class for students who are familiar with basic line dancing at 3:30 p.m. Thursdays through March 13. Cost is $53.

Blood pressure screenings Stop in from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays for free blood pressure readings by a registered nurse. Information: 410-313-1425.

Qi Gong Jessica Koch leads students in a series of gentle movements synchronized with breathing that promotes energy movement through the body. Classes will be held through March 14. Cost is $58.

Gentle Beginning Yoga Classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Gold Strength Move through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength and range of movement and improve balance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
