Volunteering in Anne Arundel

Anne Arundel County Police

Volunteers are needed for the department's Reserve Officer program, a uniformed position to assist officers in traffic control, administrative duties, community relations, etc.  Volunteers must be older than 21 and undergo a criminal background check. Hours of availability are flexible. A minimum of 16 service hours per month is required, and volunteers can be placed at any of the four district stations. Boy Scouts

Troop 323 of Annapolis, chartered in November, needs adult volunteers to help nurture this brand new troop. Volunteers must be older than 18, male or female, and pass a background check. All registered adults must also complete required training to include youth protection training. Meetings are held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the First Baptist Church of Annapolis. Literacy council

Tutors are needed to help combat adult illiteracy. After completing training, volunteers make their own schedule with an assigned student at a place of their choosing, or can tutor at local detention centers. Hours are flexible and most work can be done at home. Information: 410-269-4419.
