Police make arrests in Annapolis hotel drug bust

Anne Arundel County police arrested several people after allegedly finding illegal drugs in a hotel room in Annapolis

Carlos Dewayne Abney Jr., 25, of Annapolis; Lauren Zhane Surgeon, 18, of Annapolis; and William Hunter Hardesty, 26, of Riva were arrested in a room around 1:39 p.m. in the Extended Stay of America in the unit block of Womack Drive. Abney and Surgeon were arrested on charges including possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute, and Hardesty was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, all according to online court records. No charges were listed for a fourth man at the hotel room.

Earlier, Anne Arundel officers had recovered dug paraphernalia and money from a vehicle at Harbour Center in Annapolis.

Police said as the investigation continued, officers searched a hotel room after smelling marijuana emanating from the area, and discovered 8.2 grams of suspected heroin, 14 grams of suspected marijuana, 19 tablets of oxycodone and $2,096 in cash, according to a police report.
