Memorial events planned today for Columbia Mall shooting victims

February 01, 2014|By Carrie Wells, The Baltimore Sun

A moment of silence was at the Mall in Columbia Saturday on the one-week anniversary of a shooting that claimed the lives of two young people.

The moment of silence was held at 11:15 a.m., the time when the shooting began in the skate apparel shop Zumiez last week. Police believe Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19, killed two Zumiez employees: Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park and Tyler Johnson, 25, of Mount Airy. Aguilar later took his own life.

Another memorial is planned for Benlolo and Johnson at Centennial Park in Ellicott City, where mourners will hold a group skateboard ride at 1 p.m. Saturday to honor their memories. The event will begin with loved ones sharing their memories of the two victims and conclude with a skateboard ride. Attendees do not have to skateboard or longboard to participate. Johnson was a 2006 graduate of Centennial High School in Ellicott City.
