No. 9 Poly boys upset by Ben Franklin-Masonville Cove

Robert Goodwin made the game-winning running floater with five seconds left in overtime as Ben Franklin-Masonville Cove (12-4) upset No. 9 Poly, 74-72, Thursday night.

The Engineers (9-5) forced overtime when John Crosby (20 points) made a 2-pointer with 14 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 61.

No. 7 Edmondson 80, Forest Park 62: Tione James scored a game-high 24 points for the Foresters, but the Red Storm (11-3) never trailed.

Kani Coles had 19 points and Chaz Lassiter added 18 for Edmondson.

No. 10 Lake Clifton 71, Douglass 52: The host Lakers (18-2) brought full-court pressure in the second half to create turnovers and pull away from the Ducks.

Derrick Green scored 19 points and Montique Wright had 18 for Lake Clifton, which led 36-26 at the break.

Girls basketball

No. 8 City 54, Mervo 29: DeAsia Meyers scored 16 points and Koraan Sydnor added 13 to power the host Knights (15-1) past the Mustangs.


100 wins: C. Milton Wright's Doug Thier (182) and Mike Zito (138) each got his 100th win.

Thier won his at the Meade Tournament on Jan. 18, and Zito got his at a tri-meet with North East and Rising Sun on Monday.
