Volunteering in Anne Arundel

Anne Arundel County Police

Volunteers are needed for the department's Reserve Officer program, a uniformed position to assist officers in traffic control, administrative duties, community relations, etc.  Volunteers must be older than 21 and undergo a criminal background check. Hours of availability are flexible. A minimum of 16 service hours per month is required, and volunteers can be placed at any of the four district stations.  Information: 410-222-0042 or aacounty.org/police

Chesapeake Arts Center

The Chesapeake Arts Center seeks volunteers 16 and older to serve as ushers and at the box office for performances at the Hammonds Lane and/or Studio 194 theaters. Volunteers are also needed to help in the gift shop with mailings and other activities. Information: chesapeakearts.org or 410-636-6597.

Community Action Partnership

Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary

The nonprofit organization needs volunteers, 18 and older, who can commit to at least one morning per week for animal care, including watering, feeding and cleaning for a wide variety of animals. Information: 410-798-0193 or go to wildlifesanctuary.us/dws.

Maritime Museum

The Annapolis Maritime Museum needs volunteers on a continuing basis to maintain and expand its environmental education program, conduct tours of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, restore wooden boats, interpret the museum's exhibits to the public and help with the winter seminar series, the summer concert series and events such as the Annapolis Oyster Roast and Sock Burning in March and the Boatyard Beach Bash in September.
