A 41-year-old Reisterstown man has been charged with killing his wife and then burning down their house last month, Baltimore County police said Wednesday.

Anthony Paul Rutherford, of Fox Run Court, faces first-degree murder and arson charges in the Dec. 8 death of his wife, 35-year-old Kendra Michelle Rutherford.

Firefighters found Kendra Rutherford unresponsive in the burning house and took her to Northwest Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy later found she had been asphyxiated, and an investigation determined the fire had been intentionally set.

Anthony Rutherford was arrested and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

An earlier version of this story misidentified Anthony Rutherford.
