A 27-year-old man shot in the face Tuesday afternoon underwent surgery and is expected to survive, Baltimore police said a day later.

The man had been brought to a Southwest Baltimore hospital Tuesday evening with multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to his face. Detectives initially believed he had been shot in the 3300 block of W. Baltimore St., but later said the shooting took place in the unit block of S. Caton Ave.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was in a parked vehicle with a friend when he got out to meet someone. While he was outside the car, an unknown suspect shot him multiple times, police said. The victim struggled back in the car, and his friend drove him to the hospital, police said.

The man was listed in stable condition on Wednesday, police said.
