Two adults and five children were displaced by a kitchen fire that caused at least $30,000 in damage to their house in Columbia Sunday night, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Firefighters were called to the two-story house in the 6100 block of Camp Fire Ct. around 7 p.m. The home was empty when firefighters arrived, and the fire was contained to the kitchen on the first floor and put it out in about 20 minutes, the department said in a news release.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage estimate ranged from $30,000 to $50,000, the release said.

The Red Cross is assisting the family displaced by the fire, the release said.
