Woman injured in Laurel townhouse fire

An elderly woman was seriously injured in an early morning fire in Laurel, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The fire in the 9500 block of Canterbury Riding in Laurel was reported around 5:15 a.m. by a newspaper delivery person and a neighbor, according to Cerisa Speight, a public information officer for the fire department.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital after being removed from the-end-of-group townhouse by the firemen. She was the only person in the house at the time, Speight said.

Fire department personnel from Howard, Anne Arundel, Prince George's and Montgomery County responded to the blaze which was brought under control at 6 a.m., according to Speight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. According to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, the current damage estimate is around $150,000.
