Joan B. Brady, a former accountant and receptionist, died Jan. 2 of Alzheimer's disease at Ellicott City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 84.

The daughter of Frank Brinegar, a steelworker, and Blanche Brinegar, a homemaker, Joan Brinegar was born and raised in Charleroi, Pa., where she graduated in 1948 from Charleroi Area High School.

Mrs. Brady worked as an accountant in Charleroi before moving to Columbia in 1990, when she went to work as a receptionist for the Greenwich Group, a Rockville insurance company. She retired in 1996.

She was married in 1950 to Edward "Ebby" Brady, a pianist who died in 2011.

Mrs. Brady was an accomplished cook who enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

"She may have been an accountant by trade, but she was also a master chef. She did gourmet as well as home-style cooking," said a daughter, Leslie A. Crockett of Columbia. "She left her daughters a legacy of her love for cooking in a cookbook that she wrote."

Services are private.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Brady is survived by another daughter, Lynn A. Brady of Monessen, Pa.; a brother, Larry Brinegar of Fort Myers, Fla.; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
