Water restored for 300 in Fells Point after crews fix break

More than 300 homes and businesses were without water in the Fells Point area Wednesday night after crews were forced to shut off service to repair a ruptured water line.

Water service was restored early Thursday morning, according to the Baltimore Department of Public Works, but officials warned that low water pressure would last for hours.

Workers shut down the 16-inch water main in order to make repairs to a 6-inch water line that broke in a vacant building in the 500 block of S. Broadway Tuesday night, according to DPW. A five-alarm fire that took hours to extinguish seriously damaged the same building in 2012.

There were numerous water main breaks across the city as temperatures plunged to record lows in the past few days, including a 12-inch water main break on E. Cold Spring Lane near Harford Road that crews were repairing Thursday morning.
