Blast this weekend

Missouri Comets (5-2) at Blast (5-2)

Friday at Baltimore Arena, 7:35 p.m.

Pennsylvania Roar (0-9) at Blast (5-2)

Saturday at Baltimore Arena, 7:35 p.m.

Outlook: The Blast enters the 2014 portion of its schedule on an impressive four-game winning streak, and tied for second place with Missouri in the Major Indoor Soccer League, one game back of the first-place Milwaukee Wave.

After blanking Rochester, 12-0, on Dec. 13, the Blast have enjoyed three straight dominating wins against the hapless Pennsylvania Roar, outscoring the overmatched expansion team 74-2 with two shutouts. Getting the Roar, which has been outscored 161-36 in its nine losses, on the second night this weekend is a distinct advantage for the Blast.

Missouri presents a formidable challenge on Friday and the Blast must maintain its intensity through all four quarters after playing so many consecutive non-competitive games.

The Comets feature the MISL's most potent attack so far this season, scoring a league-high 134 points to average just under 20 per game. Vahid Assadpour is tied for first in the league with 40 points and Leo Gibson ranks third with 35.

Max Ferdinand leads the Blast with 22 points and goalkeeper William Vanzela has a league-best 5.28 points against average, including two shutouts.
