Five locals set to play in national high school football all-star games

Five local football players will wrap up their high school careers this week with appearances in national All-America games.

The first kicks off tonight with Meade All-Metro defensive end Niquekko Cook and Dunbar running back Coleman Blackston playing in the National Underclassmen Combine's Senior All-American Game at 8 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The highest-profile game takes place Thursday with Gilman two-time All-Metro defensive end Melvin Keihn playing in the Under Armour All-America Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The game starts at 4 p.m. and will be shown live on ESPN.

Keihn, who committed to Virginia Tech last week, is the fourth Greyhounds player to participate in the game, following Darius Jennings, Cyrus Jones and Henry Poggi.

On Friday, Dunbar quarterback William Crest will play in the Offense-Defense All-American Game at Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. Crest has committed to play for West Virginia.

Annapolis Area Christian's All-Metro safety Demetrius Johnson will play in Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be televised on NBC at 1 p.m.
